Skate Park Coming to Bayhead Complex

When is the skate park going to be finished?

Well, city leaders officially broke ground for the construction of the Bayhead Skate Park, which will be just north of the basketball courts at the Bayhead Complex Thursday.

Brown, superintendent of Largo’s parks, said the city still needs a modification to a permit and is waiting for approval from the Southwest Water Management District.

The permit process should be finished in a few weeks, he said. Then the construction can start. It should take about 10 weeks before the finished product, including a bowl, stairs and rails, are built.

The nearly 9,000-square-foot park will be free and open for use by skateboarders and BMX riders by summer, Brown said.

“We wanted to get as much skate park as we can for $150,000,” he said.

It will be monitored by camera at all times. Brown said the skate park placement near Seminole Boulevard should help reduce vandalism.

Largo's skate park opened originally in 2003 at the Highland Recreation Center. Construction of the new Highland Complex will be on the former skate park site which forced its relocation.
