The change also aligns with Orange County Public Schools’ recent decision to rename the school on the street from Stonewall Jackson Middle School to Roberto Clemente Middle School. A native of Puerto Rico, Roberto Clemente was a Hall of Fame baseball star and a humanitarian. He passed away in 1972 in a plane crash while bringing supplies to survivors of an earthquake in Nicaragua.Â
Roberto Clemente’s sons – Roberto Jr. and Luis - will join the community for the new street sign unveiling. Â
