Disability inclusion consultants tapped for national conference

Synchrony HR exec shares best practices in Ohio, Arizona, and new Orlando location

One of the biggest challenges for Human Resource (HR) specialists is managing a constantly changing regulatory environment. As the leading consultant service for companies seeking to diversify their workforce, Disability Solutions works with employers to attract, hire and retain talent with disabilities, connecting those activities and outcomes to meet and exceed compliance obligations. With their vast Disability & Inclusion experience, the professionals at Disability Solutions are sought-after speakers for state and national conferences on a variety of diversity, human resources, and workforce development topics.

Julie Cook Sowash, Senior Consultant with Disability Solutions, and Liz Heitner, Senior VP Human Resources with Synchrony Financial, will serve as co-presenters of a workshop entitled “Contractor Best Practices: Collaborating for Success” at the 2018 ILG National Conference taking place in Anaheim, CA from July 30th to August 3rd. The two will share how the global financial company leveraged internal strengths from the frontline to the C-Suite and strategically partnered with the community to successfully attract and hire talent with disabilities. Since launching work with Disability Solutions in 2016, Synchrony has hired 90 employees through their People with Disabilities Hiring Initiative in Arizona and Ohio and is currently expanding across the organization, beginning with a recent launch in Orlando, Florida.

“The strategic playbook that we created for Synchrony has become a case study in the measurable and meaningful outcomes of recruiting talent with disabilities,” said Sowash. “Their commitment to fostering an inclusive corporate culture has positioned them as a diversity leader.”

Sowash notes that employers who foster inclusion not only create a more inviting work culture, but also see a positive organizational impact including turnover reduction and building or strengthening a company’s brand with their customers as well as current and potential team members.

More than 1,000 top Human Resource executives will gather at the annual conference. These executives help influence regulatory and legislative outcomes concerning affirmative action and equal employment opportunity and implement these regulations within their respective companies.

Sowash will join speakers from the U.S. Department of Labor and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs and the EEOC to provide effective strategies, best practices and tools to assist organizations in navigating the waves of change in compliance, diversity and inclusion. Disability Solutions will also be represented by Kevin McCloskey, Director of Partnership Development, and Keith Meadows, Hiring and Engagement Consultant, who will serve as exhibitors and onsite resources for attendees looking to create a comprehensive recruitment strategy and take action to hire people with disabilities.

The National Industry Liaison Group (NILG), the premier employer association in the United States, hosts the 2018 ILG National Conference. NILG promotes Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, and Diversity by working closely with the OFCCP, EEOC, and related state, regional, and local administrative agencies.
