Earning merit badges at Camp Shands has been a summer tradition for the boys in Lake Helen's Troop 590 for years.
The Gainesville-area facility sprawls across 900 acres and includes a wide array of activites, from swimming to shotguns and from canoeing to log-rolling. Camp Shands will always be in their hearts.
But now the boys want to roam.

You can help them meet their goal of attending their first summer camp outside of Florida next year.

Eat. Drink. Pay. Lake Helen's Troop 590 will get 20 percent of sales for summer camp 2019.
The offer begins at 11 a.m. and ends 12 hours later.
The continues BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse's long tradition of community support.
It has donated thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours to community nonprofits organizations, including NASCAR Foundation, Halifax Hospice, American Cancer Society and many local charities.
Scouting builds character and fosters positive values such as fairness, courage, honor, and respect for others.
The merit badges earned during summer camp will help many of the boys become Eagle Scouts, the top rank in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America.
Troop 590 in Lake Helen, roughly 30 miles north of Orlando, have been affilcated with the veterans at American Legion Post 127 for years.
