Local Kids ‘Fuel Up’ for NFL’s Play 60 Field Day at the Pro Bowl

Hundreds of local students participate in the NFL's 'Fuel Up to Play 60' Initiative at the Pro Bowl

ORLANDO, FL – Ask any kid how it feels to get a day off of school and they will most likely describe how enthused they are. That excitement was amplified on Thursday afternoon for hundreds of local students in the greater Orlando metropolitan area as they participated in the NFL’s ‘Fuel Up to Play 60’ initiative at the Pro Bowl in the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex while interacting with some of their favorite football players.

The kids, joined by NFL team mascots, participated in different types of drills throughout the field in effort to encourage exercise while learning from the best in the business. Among those was nine-year-old Barret Wiebe from Lake Mary, FL.

“It was such an amazing experience today to meet all the players and get autographs,” said Wiebe, whose favorite drill was the relay race. “I had a lot of fun today and this was something that I’ve been looking forward to for a while.”

  • Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback AJ Bouye and defensive lineman Yannick Ngakone

“We ran a variety of skills and drills today for the kids – they weren’t all necessarily football related, but they were activity related and that’s what we wanted to stress about this program,” said Geno Riley, a former NFL player and Camp Director for the NFL’s Play 60 grassroots initiative. “We wanted to emphasize the importance of getting in that 60 minutes of exercise a day while having fun. Everybody had a blast today and it was a really special experience for the kids to be able to meet some of the Pro Bowlers.”

Fuel Up to Play 60 is designed to engage and empower youth to take action for their own health by implementing long-term, positive changes for themselves and their schools. It has been over a decade since the NFL launched its ‘Play 60’ initiative and the league-wide campaign continues to be a focal point in building a positive relationship with the community.
