A 15-year-old girl was trapped in a tree by an alligator until a Lake County deputy shot killed the reptile.

A 15-year-old girl was trapped in a tree by an alligator for almost an hour until a Lake County deputy shot killed the reptile last week, the Lake County Sheriff's Office reported.

The teen was floating on a raft in a creek in the Ocala National Forest on Friday when an 11-foot alligator approached her in the water. The girl was able to climb up a tree and call her mom who called the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The gator was near the base of the tree when a deputy arrived, according to the sheriff's office.
