Escambia County Evacuations For Hurricane Michael

The evacuations will be lifted at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, according to an update from Escambia County.

Evacuations ordered in some parts of Escambia County ahead of Hurricane Michael will be lifted at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, according to a press release from the county.

The county issued an evacuation order on Tuesday for Zone A as of noon Tuesday. Zone A includes Pensacola Beach, Perdido Key and low-lying areas.

Escambia County officials say they do not use the terms "voluntary" or "mandatory" with regards to evacuations.

"When evacuation orders are given, residents and visitors are expected to comply as it is a government order," the county said in a hurricane update.

The county also said in its update that those who live in mobile homes or have special needs should considering evacuating regardless of the zone they live in.

Hurricane Michael made landfall Wednesday afternoon just northwest of Mexico Beach, Florida with maximum sustained winds reaching 155 miles per hour.

The following shelters are open for Hurricane Michael:

  • Pensacola Bay Center, 201 E Gregory St.: General population and special needs.
  • Escambia County Equestrian Center, 7750 Mobile Highway: Horses only. All horses must have a current Coggins test certificate. For more information, contact the Equestrian Center at 850-941-6042.
  • Pet-friendly shelter: Molino Elementary School, 899 Highway 97.Please bring the pet's food, water, medications, familiar items like toys or treats, crate or leash, collar, and proof of vaccinations. You must stay at the shelter with your pet. All pets without proof of vaccination will be vaccinated on site.
