2016 Sarasota Slam Fishing Tournament Set for This Weekend

Registration is still ongoing for the two-day tournament with more than $500,000 in cash prizes.

SARASOTA, FL – With only days remaining before the beginning of the 2016 Sarasota Slam, there’s still time for anglers to register for the fishing tournament.

The 2016 Sarasota Slam will take place Friday, Aug. 5 and Saturday, Aug. 6 at Marina Jack, 2 Marina Plaza in Sarasota. The entry deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5. Onsite registration will be available at the marina from 2 to 5 p.m.

More than 500 anglers have participated in the Sarasota Slam since its inception 13 years ago.

The entry fees for the three categories in the 2016 tournament are:

  • Offshore Tournament (grouper, snapper and a wildcard), $500 per boat
  • Inshore Tournament (trout and redfish), $150 per angler
  • Junior Angler (inshore and offshore), $25 per angler

More than $500,000 in prize money will be up for grabs during the tournament.

The schedule for the 2016 Sarasota Slam is:

Thursday, Aug. 4

6 p.m.: Sponsor party

Friday, Aug. 5

2 to 5 p.m.: Angler/boat registration

5 to 6 p.m.: Captains meeting

6 p.m.: Anglers released to fish

Saturday, Aug. 6

Noon to 6 p.m.: Silent auction and raffle

1 to 4 p.m.: Weigh-in

3 p.m.: Dockside barbecue and party with live music by Blue Mason Barter

The awards ceremony will be immediately following the weigh-in.
