5 Teens Shot At In Downtown Sarasota Monday Night: Police

Police are investigating the shooting of a vehicle with 5 teenagers in the area of Orange Avenue and South State Street. No one was injured.

SARASOTA, FL — Five teenage boys were shot at while inside their vehicle in downtown Sarasota Monday night.

The shooting took place just before 9:45 p.m. in the area of Orange Avenue and South State Street, Sarasota police said in a news release.

None of the teens, who range from ages 14 to 17, were injured in the shooting, though their vehicle was struck.

Not long after the shooting, Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Sarasota police officers stopped a vehicle near Clark Road and South Tamiami Trail. They initially believed the two people in the vehicle were involved in the shooting, but ultimately determined they weren’t.

Police said the shooting is the result of a dispute that began in north Sarasota, though the suspects are unknown. Both the victims and the suspects traveled to the area of Orange and State streets, where the shots were fired.
