Art Hits The Streets Of Sarasota

SARASOTA, FL -- A small portion of Main Street was temporarily closed to traffic and pedestrians Sunday morning for a unique project for a city with a reputation for fine art.

Local artist Careth Christine painted the crosswalk in the 1500 block of Main Street, near C'est La Vie and Cask & Ale.

The city’s Public Works Department worked with the artist to test the painting materials and prep the crosswalk for the installation.

City staff have been considering this type of pilot project for the past year and have been seeking the best applicable location for a demonstration. The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce also recently expressed interest in such projects.

The artist will be submitting another design for an additional crosswalk art project in the 1400 block of Main Street, to be installed at a later date.
