Banyan Theater Company Opens "My Old Lady" Tonight
"... underlines the play's sadness without diluting the leavening touches of comedy that make it so satisfying." ~Wall Street Journal
The Banyan Theater Company opens the third and final production of its 2015 season tonight with “My Old Lady” by Israel Horowitz. The play runs through August 23.
When a down-on-his-luck middle-aged man (Peter Thomasson) inherits an apartment in Paris, he plans to solve his financial woes by selling it. He discovers, much to his dismay, that the elderly woman living there (Donna Gerdes) has lifetime habitation rights under an arcane French law and she is not about to give them up. Because he has no other place to go, she invites him to stay in the spacious apartment. There, he learns friendship, falls in love, and must finally deal with the death of his father. Lilian Moore also stars; the play is directed by Don Walker.
The movie by the same name, starring Kevin Kline, Maggie Smith and Kristin Scott Thomas, was released in September 2014 and directed by Mr. Horovitz.
