Drug Sweep Yields 13 Arrests, 52 Felony Charges: Sheriff
Collectively, the 13 people arrested in the Sarasota County Sheriff's Department drug sweep have 248 prior charges, 120 prior convictions.
SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office charged 13 people with more than 50 felony crimes related to selling or trafficking fentanyl and several other illicit drugs.
In separate undercover drug buys since September, several individuals sold narcotics to special investigations detectives, who issued warrants for their arrests, the sheriff’s office said in a news release Thursday.
These undercover transactions yielded a range of substances, including fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and prescription pills. In two cases, suspects were charged with trafficking the deadly narcotics, the sheriff’s office said.

With assistance from the agency’s tactical unit and neighboring law enforcement agencies, detectives took each suspect into custody during a warrant sweep in mid-May.
“Initiatives like these are crucial to disrupting the distribution of dangerous narcotics such as fentanyl and methamphetamine in our communities,” Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman said. “This warrant sweep not only took drugs off the street, but also sends a strong message that the sheriff’s office does not tolerate those supplying potentially lethal substances in Sarasota County.”
