Fish Cake Restaurant Opens In Sarasota’s Southside Village
Reef Cakes opened March 1 and will host a grand opening celebration Friday evening.
SARASOTA, FL — Reef Cakes, a fish cakes and seafood restaurant, opened its doors in Sarasota’s Southside Village March 1.
The restaurant, located at 1812 S Osprey Ave. in Sarasota, will celebrate its grand opening Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will include live steel drum music, free raffle entry for a gift basket prize and giveaways throughout the evening, according to Reef Cake’s Facebook page.
Reef Cakes brands itself as “a new, fast-casual healthy lunch alternative,” according to Facebook. Similar to crab cakes, the restaurant serves handcrafted cakes using locally sourced fish, according to its menu. These cakes are baked and briefly seared before being served.

The menu also includes a variety of sides, including an island charcuterie board and adult fish sticks, as well as some items “beyond the reef,” including beef, veggie, and turkey burgers, and grilled chicken breast.

Reef Cakes has also partnered with Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium in Sarasota. The eatery will donate 1 percent of all purchases to Mote.
“Help us preserve where we and many sea critters call home,” the restaurant posted on Facebook when they announced the partnership Jan. 21.
