Fleet Feet Sports Sarasota Announces Debut Of Running Club

The club offers customized training programs for 5K to marathon runners; summer session kicks off with a free orientation June 12.

Photo: The new Fleet Feet Running Club is designed to help everyone from beginners to advanced runners train for and reach the finish line or set a new personal record.

Local runners and walkers looking to get off the couch, stay off the couch or find like-minded enthusiasts to train with during the hot summer months have a new option with the debut of the Fleet Feet Running Club.

A special free orientation session is being offered by Fleet Feet Sarasota at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, which will address the training program features and answer questions.

The running club is led by SRQRunning coach and Team New Balance Sarasota member Holly Johnson, who has survived numerous Florida summers training for and coaching other runners for fall races. She brings her proven track record for getting walkers and runners to the finish line and helping athletes achieve new PRs.

Supported by other local running coaches, customized 10-week training programs will be offered starting Saturday, June 16. Sessions are open to walkers and runners of all ability levels who are interested in training for and completing distances from 5Ks to marathons.

Each 10-week session includes customized training programs for each distance with advanced options for more seasoned runners, up to two group coaching sessions per week and special information sessions by Fleet Feet Running Club partners to address issues such as training in the heat, injury prevention and exercises, nutrition/fueling and the importance of pace variance. Each session also includes a local goal race while accommodating runners training for other destination races.

Fleet Feet Running Club program details

~ 10-week personalized training programs for 5K, 10K, half and full marathon

~ Up to two coaching sessions per week (leaving from Fleet Feet Sarasota): Tuesdays at 6:45 a.m. or 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 7:00 a.m.

~ Bi-monthly training sessions by local experts in the areas of injury prevention, nutrition, training in the heat and more
