Florida's 100 Best Public High Schools: New Rankings Released

Pine View School in Sarasota County is Florida's best public high school for 2019, according to a new set of rankings recently released by Niche.com. The rankings were released as part of Niche’s 2019 K-12 rankings.

Niche had this to say about Pine View School: The Osprey school has 2,175 students in grades 2-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 18 to 1. According to state test scores, 99 percent of students are at least proficient in math and 99 percent in reading.

A parent posted this review on the Sarasota County school: "Pine View is sometimes criticized for lacking diversity, and it is one key reason why this school isn't consistently ranked No. 1. That's because the school is a true meritocracy where your character, intelligence, discipline and hard work are important and ethnicity is not. Getting into this school is easier than staying in so parent engagement and participation is just as important as the student's."

"When graduates come back to talk to current students a year or two later, the universal comment is about how easy college was for them because they were so well prepared at Pine View," the parent wrote.

A.D. Henderson University School & FAU High School in Boca Raton, Suncoast Community High School in Palm Beach County, School For Advanced Studies - South in Miami-Dade and West Shore Junior/Senior High in Melbourne closed out the top five spots in the state.

Plant High School topped the list for Hillsborough County schools at No. 22.

According to Niche, the best public high school in the country is Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora, Illinois.
