Ashton Road Reopens After Gas Leak Near Sarasota Middle School
A gas leak in the 4800 block of Ashton Road was caused by construction crews in the area, a spokesperson for Sarasota County said.

SARASOTA, FL — A gas leak near Sarasota Middle School temporarily shut down Ashton Road Monday morning and forced everyone in the area of the leak to shelter in place, Sarasota County staff said.
The Sarasota County Fire Department initially responded to a leak in the 4800 block of Ashton Road just before 10 a.m., the county’s Emergency Services department tweeted. The gas line was struck by a construction crew working in the area.

The leak was mitigated around 10:40 a.m. and roads reopened around 11:15 a.m., the county said. There were no injuries reported, officials said.
