Get Out of Town - Origami in the Garden Sculpture Exhibit in Naples

Naples Botanical Garden adds Origami After Dark; Baker Museum offers origami workshops February 11

Origami in the Garden, the monumental outdoor sculpture exhibition created by American artists Kevin and Jennifer Box, is on display in multiple locations in Naples through April 23, 2017. In a unique collaboration, Naples Botanical Garden, The Baker Museum on the Artis-Naples campus, and Lowdermilk Park on the Gulf of Mexico are exhibiting various pieces of the playful, large-scale works of the internationally renowned sculptors and origami creators.

Over 50 pieces of sculpture are on display between the three locations. Of those, 30 are outdoors, primarily in Naples Botanical Garden. The distinctive creations, from giant cranes to a life-size Pegasus, take the art of single-paper folding to a new level. Sculptor Kevin Box pioneered an innovative method of capturing origami’s delicate detail and rendering it with museum-quality metals into large-scale works of art. Each sculpture in the Origami in the Garden collection began with a single piece of paper. In addition to Box’s creations, the works of world-renowned origami artists Robert J. Lang, Te Jui Fu, Micheal G. LaFosse and Richard L. Alexander are also on display.

Naples Botanical Garden has added Origami After Dark to its schedule of events, offering the opportunity to catch a sunset from their newly opened Karen and Robert Scott Florida Garden and view the Origami in the Garden exhibition in a whole new light. The Garden will stay open late – until 8:00 pm – on February 1, 8, 15 and 22, and March 1 and 8.
