Intruder Shot, Killed By Sarasota Homeowner Tuesday: Sheriff

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — A Sarasota homeowner shot and killed a man attempting to break into his DeSoto Lakes home Tuesday night, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office tweeted.

Deputies were called to the home in the 4500 block of 47th Street around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, they found the intruder dead at the home, the sheriff’s office tweeted.

Based on a preliminary investigation, the suspect and the homeowner didn’t know each other ahead of the attempted break-in, deputies said.

Detectives and forensics personnel are working with the county’s Medical Examiner’s Office to process the crime scene, the sheriff’s office said. The investigation is ongoing.
