JDub’s Brewing Closing Flagship Sarasota Location

"COVID kicked our a--, straight up," Jeremy Joerger, JDub's Brewing Company's owner and founder, said.

SARASOTA, FL — The popular JDub’s Brewing Company will close its flagship Sarasota location at 1215 Mango Ave., the brewery’s owner and founder, Jeremy Joerger, said in a video shared to its Facebook page Wednesday.

“In spite of trying very hard to open the Sarasota location, we’re not going to be able to do it,” he said. “There’s some reasons for that. Some of them I’m not gonna say on this format, but in the end, we just couldn’t do it.”

The company’s Orlando location, JDub’s Dub Shack at Brew Theory, will remain open and brewing beer under the JDub brand, he added.

JDub’s partnered with Brew Theory to open the Orlando taproom and move production of its core beers there last year, according to Brew Bound.

“The brand is still going strong. We’re still producing our beer out of Orlando,” Joerger said.

JDub’s has struggled in Sarasota throughout the coronavirus pandemic, though. The company filed for a Chapter 11 bankruptcy last spring as a result of the state’s temporary mandatory closure of bars and restaurants.

“Yeah, COVID kicked our a--, straight up,” Joerger said.

He’s hopeful the brand will live on in Sarasota and is searching for a new home for a taproom.

“I still live here. I still reside here, and we are actively looking for a new location, hopefully, what I feel will be a better location to put a new taproom here in Sarasota, where we were born,” he said.

Joerger added, “But JDub’s is pulling through. JDub’s is strong. JDub’s is gonna be strong. We’re just, unfortunately, not going to stay here in this particular Sarasota location.”

JDub’s current Sarasota taproom will open temporarily for limited hours soon, though he didn’t say when this would happen. The brewery will also release its Bomb Berry Blueberry IPA soon.

He’s also partnered with Brew Theory to launch a non-alcoholic brewing company. He’ll introduce some of those brews at the Sarasota taproom before it closes for good, he said. The non-alcoholic beers will also be available in the Sarasota area through Gold Coast Eagle Distributing.

“So, you’ll see me out banging the non-alcoholic brewing company drum,” Joerger said.
