Lake Sarasota Community Cleanup Planned Saturday

Sarasota County will host a communitywide cleanup in the Lake Sarasota area Saturday morning.

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — Sarasota County will host a communitywide cleanup in the Lake Sarasota area Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

The event encourages residents in this area to clean up their properties and garages by gathering “discarded household items, appliances, junk, tree trimmings and other garbage,” the county said in a news release.

The county will provide dumpsters for free at Sarasota Baptist Church at 7091 Proctor Road in Sarasota.

Masks are required and county staff will require vehicles to queue at this site in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the county said. Additionally, county staff will not be able to handle any materials brought to the site due to CDC health and safety guidelines.

Hazardous waste, auto parts, commercial printers and tires over 26 inches by 16 inches will not be accepted at the church.

However, these materials may be taken to the Sarasota County Chemical Collection Centers between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, the county said. The centers are located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota and 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice.
