Mobile Heath Screening Services Offered During May

Mobile unit will appear at four sites around Sarasota County this month.

SARASOTA, FL – The Florida Department of Health Services in Sarasota County will provide free and low-cost public health services through its Health in Motion Mobile Medical Unit throughout May.

The Health in Motion Mobile Medical Unit staff provides health screenings, some adult vaccines, tobacco cessation support and health education for general health and wellness. People who need follow-up medical care are referred to a primary health care provider.

Health in Motion Mobile Medical Unit services include:

  • Diabetes education and screening
  • Blood pressure check
  • HIV and sexually-transmitted disease testing
  • Body mass index measurement
  • Referrals to Tobacco Free Florida’s “3 Ways to Quit” no-cost resources
  • Health information
  • Limited adult immunizations including flu shots.

No appointment is needed. All testing is fast and easy. STD testing results are sent to the individual using a special coded text message.

The staff also helps people who lack medical insurance and do not have a health care provider to find a medical home for ongoing health care. There is a fee associated with some services although several tests and vaccines are available at no cost to adults who qualify.

The Health in Motion Mobile Medical Unit will appear at these locations:

  • Wednesday, May 11 – Salvation Army Family Store, 1160 U.S. Highway 41 Bypass S., Venice, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 18 – Habitat for Humanity Re-Store, 1400 Ogden Road, Venice, 9:30 a.m. to noon
  • Wednesday, May 18 – U.S. Department of Agriculture food distribution program, Sandra Sims Terry Community Center, 509 Collins Road, Laurel, 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Friday, May 20 – Goodwill Manasota Center North Trail, 5150 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
