North Casey Key Road Reopens
The 300 to 600 blocks of North Casey Key Road closed Wednesday night due to storm surges from Tropical Storm Eta.
SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — North Casey Key Road has fully reopened Thursday morning as storm surges from Tropical Storm Eta have subsided, county officials said. A portion of the roadway – the 300 to 600 block – was closed Wednesday night due to rising waters covering it.
“We were working last night and had a few spots on Casey Key of concern,” said Spencer Anderson, Sarasota County’s public works director, in a Thursday morning news update. “Luckily, they held up. For the most part, the road is intact.”
There are still a few areas with debris that the county is working on. He also said that there has been “some severe erosion” near 2120 Casey Key Road, but public works staff is “working on some thing to reestablish the security of that road.”

Water will also be restored to residents between 2209 Casey Key Road and 1620 Casey Key Road Thursday morning. The county’s planned partial water outages for that area went into effect Wednesday night. Though water has been restored, there is a temporary boil water notice in place.
Flooding has gone down along other coastal roads in the county, and they should be dry, Anderson added. There is still some standing water in the River Rain area along Phillippi Creek, though. He expects water levels to come down there in a few hours.
