Orioles Announce 2017 Spring Training Schedule in Sarasota
The team's Grapefruit League season will feature 17 home games at Ed Smith Stadium.
SARASOTA, FL – Even though the 2016 World Series is about to get underway, many cities around Florida are getting prepared for the beginning of the 2017 Major League Baseball season.
The Baltimore Orioles released their 2017 Spring Training schedule, which opens Friday, Feb. 24 at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland against the Detroit Tigers. The Orioles’ home opener is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 26 against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota.
The 2017 Grapefruit League season marks the eighth consecutive Spring Training for the Orioles in Sarasota, and the seventh at the renovated Ed Smith Stadium. The stadium was named the 2015 Sports Turf Managers Association Field of the Year for professional baseball. It is the highest honor in the industry.

Baltimore will face eight different Major League opponents during its 17-game home schedule. The Orioles will play the Philadelphia Phillies three times three times at Ed Smith Stadium, and the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays twice each. The New York Yankees will travel to Sarasota once on Monday, Feb. 27.
As part of the World Baseball Classic exhibition schedule, the Orioles will host the defending champion Dominican Republic team on Tuesday, Marcy 7. The Dominican Republic beat Puerto Rico to claim the World Baseball Classic Crown in 2013.

The Orioles’ Grapefruit League season concludes Thursday, March 30 against the tigers.
The Orioles will also play 17 road games during their Grapefruit League schedule, with four trips to Bradenton (Pirates) and Fort Meyers (Red Sox and Twins), two trips to Port Charlotte, Lakeland and Tampa, and one trip to Dunedin (Blue Jays), Lake Buena Vista (Braves) and Clearwater (Phillies).
