Orioles Open 2016 Gulf Coast League Season Against Rays

This will be the first of 30 games for the Sarasota-based franchise.

Sarasota, FL – It’s time once again for peanuts, popcorn and Cracker Jack in Sarasota as the Orioles Gulf Coast League team will play its first home game of the 2016 season.

The Orioles will play the GCL Rays on Friday, June 24 at noon at Ed Smith Stadium, 2700 12th St. in Sarasota. The Gulf Coast League features 17 teams of recently drafted or signed players, giving them their first experience in professional baseball.

Attendance is free for all 30 home games scheduled this season for the Orioles, which ends on Aug. 31. Game times and location are subject to change without notice. Parking, located in the East Lot at the corner of 12th Street and Tuttle Avenue, is also free for all games.

The Gulf Coast League schedule is one of the many year-round activities in which the Orioles participate in Sarasota. Aside from their other on-field activities, such as Spring Training, Extended Spring Training and Fall Instructional League, the Orioles host numerous amateur tournaments, game and clinics in Sarasota County, as well as other community activities and cultural events.
