Pilot Identified In Fatal Plane Crash

Authorities have identified the pilot who died in Saturday's plane crash in Sarasota as a 70-year-old man from Hayward, Wisc.

John William Ardoyno piloted the single-engine Seawind plane Saturday taking off from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, around 3:30 p.m., showing the plane to William S. Jackson, 63, of Ann Arbor, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. Ardoyno died at the scene.

An unknown issue caused the plane to crash shortly after takeoff, into an open field at New College of Florida, across from the airport.

As of 3 a.m., Sunday, Jackson is at Tampa General Hospital's burn unit in critical condition, according to the sheriff's office.

The National Transportation Safety Board is continuing its investigation to find the cause of the crash.
