Police Nab Fleeing Armed Burglary Suspects, 1 At Large

One male suspect is still at large after an armed burglary of a car on Panama Drive, authorities report.

Two suspects are detained after burglarizing a car during the midnight hours Saturday, police report.

A third suspect is still at large.

Alonso Ford, 17, of the 3800 block of 78th Ave., one other juvenile, and a third unidentified male, were witnessed breaking into a car outside a home on Panama Drive at 12:18 a.m., May 25.

One witness attempted to confront them, police say. The suspects fled on foot just as Sarasota Police arrived on the scene, according to a news release.

Sarasota Police quickly apprehended one juvenile suspect who was running from the home.

Authorities launched a search in the area using police K9 units, patrol and traffic officers, along with a Sarasota County Sheriff's helicopter.

They located the second suspect, Ford, around the corner, less than a quarter mile away, on the 1900 block of Cocoanut Avenue. 

Ford, who was positively identified by a witness, was found with a handgun, police report.

He is charged with two counts of armed burglary, obstruction and violation of probation.  

The juvenile has not yet been charged.

The investigation is ongoing.
