Prison Inmates Vaccinated In Sarasota County Tuesday: Sheriff

About 40 percent of Sarasota County's inmates have received their first dose of the Moderna vaccine, the sheriff's office said.

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — Vaccinations were administered to 329 prison inmates in Sarasota County Tuesday, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office tweeted.

Those vaccinated represented about 40 percent of the county’s inmate population.

The inmates received the Moderna brand vaccine, Kaitlyn Perez, SCSO community affairs director said. “The second date for the second shot will vary because the inmates received vaccinations over the course of about five days.”

Moving forward, SCSO “will continue to offer the vaccine to new intakes (and) maintain availability for inmates who may request one at a later date,” the agency tweeted.

The sheriff’s office worked with NaphCare, a company that provides correctional healthcare, and the Department of Health in Sarasota County to distribute the vaccine to inmates.
