UTC Shopping Area Shootout Investigation Continues

Sarasota County Sheriff's Office are looking for the two cars involved in Saturday's University Town Center shootout.

SARASOTA, FL — Detectives are looking for the two cars involved in a Saturday evening shootout in Sarasota’s University Town Center shopping area, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

More than 30 911 calls about a possible active shooter situation in the UTC area were made around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

By talking to witnesses, detectives learned that there were at least two vehicles driven by suspects who exchanged gunfire in the 200 block of Cattlemen Road, the sheriff’s office said.

After additional investigation, including conducting witness interviews and reviewing video surveillance footage, detectives said the two vehicles involved in the shootout include a silver Nissan Altima with the driver’s side rear window shot out and a gray sedan of an unknown make and model, the sheriff’s office said.

Detectives believe this incident was isolated and that the drivers weren’t attempting to harm shoppers in the area and that they may have had a personal dispute with one another.

There are still no known victims in the case and no property was damaged in the shootout, the sheriff’s office added.
