Sarasota Assistant City Manager John Lege Resigns: Report

SARASOTA, FL — The city of Sarasota’s assistant city manager, John Lege, has handed in his resignation, the Herald-Tribune reported.

His final day with the city will be Feb. 16. He accepted the role of finance director for the city of Delray Beach, reports said.

Though his letter of resignation, which Lege submitted to City Manager Marlon Brown on Jan. 15, didn’t explain his departure, he told the Herald-Tribune that changes at City Hall prompted him to leave.

These changes included the election of two new city commissioners — Kyle Battie and Erik Arroyo — and the appointment of Brown as city manager when Tom Barwin announced his retirement in December. While not unhappy with these changes, he couldn’t picture himself “playing a part in the future,” he told the newspaper.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Lege been with the city of Sarasota for eight years. He started out as the city’s finance director before moving into the assistant city manager position four-and-a-half years ago.

Prior to Sarasota, he worked as the assistant city manager/chief financial officer for the city of Ocala and the finance director for the Sumter County Clerk of the Circuit Court.
