Sarasota Man Seriously Injured in Pedestrian Strike
Darryl Hammis, 49, sustained serious injuries when he was struck by a vehicle on Bee Ridge Road late Friday, authorities report.

A Sarasota pedestrian is hospitalized after he sustained serious injuries walking into the path of oncoming traffic late Friday, authorities report.
Darryl Hammis, 49, of Sarasota was admitted into Blake Medical Center for treatment.
A Florida Highway Patrol report indicates that the driver of a 2004 Lexus LX4 was in the center lane, headed west, on Bee Ridge Road (State Road 758) shortly before 10 p.m. The woman, who was driving with an 11-year-old relative, was approaching the intersection of McIntosh Road, when authorities say Hammis walked directly into her path.

The report indicates that the driver, Kim Mitchell, 53, of Audobon, NJ, tried to avoid striking him by steering the car left. But, she was not able to do so completely. Hammis struck the right front of her car and was knocked to the roadway, Florida Highway Patrol reports.
The investigation is ongoing.
