SARASOTA, FL -- The annual downtown Sarasota Memorial Day parade has been canceled due to the threat from Subtropical Storm Alberto and out of concern for public safety, officials and organizers.
The parade, which was scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, will not be rescheduled. The National Weather Service forecast calls for heavy rains in the area through Tuesday.
This is the first cancellation of the parade in its more than 30-year history, according to Dan Kennedy of the Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee.
