Sarasota Orchestra To Present 'Triple Play' at Ed Smith Stadium

SARASOTA, FL – Triple plays at Ed Smith Stadium usually involve the three outs on the same play during Spring Training. The Sarasota Orchestra is inviting area music fans to its own ‘Triple Play’ next weekend at the ballpark.

As part of the Orioles Arts in the Ballpark series, the Sarasota Orchestra will present Outdoor Pops: Triple Play at Ed Smith Stadium, 2700 12th St., Sarasota, on Saturday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m. The third-annual event will feature three different musical genres: jazz, rock ‘n’ roll and Broadway.

With Andrew Lane conducting, the three vocalists looking will look to hit it out of the park as with their tribute to American Divas are:

• Maria Wirries, 18, who was raised in Sarasota, attended Manatee School for the Arts and is currently a sophomore at Penn State University. She previously worked with the Sarasota Orchestra and Gloria Musicae, and has Hair, The World Goes Round and Titanic among her musical theater credits.
• Amy Whitcomb, a native of Longwood, has rocked around the world with the a cappella group Delilah, featured on the NBC show Sing-Off. She also competed on The Voice as a solo artist, impressing the judges with renditions of Because of You and Heartbreaker.
• Carol McCartney, a jazz vocalist who has the chops to perform with the greats of the genre, including Guido basso, Slam Steward and the late Peter Appleyard. Her work has earned her the honor of having a street named after her in her native Toronto.

The evening will combine the experience of going to the ballpark with hot dogs and popcorn with the music of the Outdoor Pops, ending with a fireworks display.

Tickets are $15 for Level 4, $20 for Level 3, $35 for Level 2 and $50 for Level 1. Children 2 years and younger get in free. Parking is $5 in the East and North lots with a portion of the proceeds supporting the Sarasota YMCA.
