Sarasota Voter Turnout Hit Nearly 80 Percent This Year
More than 271,000 Sarasota County voters cast their ballots in Tuesday's election.
SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — The Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections office took to Twitter Wednesday to say that the county’s voters did a “great job” turning out to vote in Tuesday’s general election. The turnout hit just shy of 80 percent with 79.93 percent of voters – or 271,850 voters – casting their ballots.
According to data on the Supervisor of Elections website, the department mailed out 150,176 vote-by-mail ballots this year. Of these, 140,812 were filled out by voters, returned and accepted by the county as of 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, 88,493 individuals participated in early voting and 42,187 voters came out on Election Day.

Republicans outvoted Democrats in Sarasota County with 122,227 voters casting a ballot. Breaking this number down, 49,581 had their mail-in ballots accepted by Tuesday night, 49,141 voted early and 23,505 came out on Election Day.
Democrats saw 86,481 total voters in this election, including 49,581 who mailed in their ballots, 18,629 who voted early and 7,089 who voted on Election Day.

Independents and those registered to other parties numbered 62,784 in this election. This included 30,468 mail-in ballots, 20,723 early voters and 11,593 who voted on Election Day.
