SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Here are five events that you don't want to miss in Sarasota County.


What: Polish Heritage Day Majówka

When: Saturday, May 1, 4 to 8 p.m.

Celebrate Polish heritage and culture with live music, Polish food, a beer tasting, ice cream, chidlren’s games and face painting, and a luxury car display.

What: Sarasota Film Festival opening night

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Where: CMX CineBistro Siesta Key, 3501 S Tamiami Trail, Sarasota

The Sarasota Film Festival kicks off Friday night with a screening of the documentary “Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for it.” The festival runs through May 8 with a mix of in-person and virtual screenings.


What: Forks & Corks Food and Wine Festival

When: Thursday through Sunday, various times

Where: Multiple venues

Encouraging diners to eat at local independently owned restaurants, this 14th annual festival offers guests specially curated menus highlighting the area’s food and beverage scene. A full schedule of events is scheduled at various local venues. There’s also an online auction scheduled. Funds raised benefit the Sarasota-Manatee Originals, a coalition of independently owned and operated restaurants.


What: Kayaking with Mote: Morning Paddle

When: Sunday, 8:30 to 10 a.m.

Where: Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, 1600 Ken Thompson Pkwy., Sarasota

Start your day with a guided kayak tour of Sarasota Bay led by Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium. Open to ages 12 and older.


What: Sailor Circus

When: May 1, 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Where: Sailor Circus Arena, 2075 Bahia Vista Street, Sarasota

This Greatest “Little” Show on Earth features students ages 8 to 18 from the Circus Arts Conservatory, a youth circus arts program. This family-friendly program features aerial artistry, acrobatics, acrobatic skating, juggling and more.
