Siesta Beach To Host 44th Annual Sand Sculpture Contest
Registration for the event begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 7.

SIESTA KEY, FL – A day trip to the beach usually means packing beach towels, a picnic lunch and maybe a surfboard. Folks heading to Siesta Beach tomorrow will be armed with brushes, shovels and toothpicks.
The Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources department will host its 44th annual Amateur Sand Sculpture Contest on Saturday, May 7. This free, family-friendly event is open to all amateur skill levels.
Achieving success in amateur sand sculpting events like this can lead to increased ranking toward becoming an Advanced Amateur Sculptor or even a Master Sculptor. Professional sculptors participate events such as the Sugar Sand Festival in Clearwater.
Cash prizes are sponsored by the Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce and the Friends of Sarasota County Parts and will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place finishers in the adult (individual), adult (team), children (10 years old and younger) and youth (11-17 years old) category. There will also be a prize awarded to the overall people’s choice winner.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. on Siesta Beach, 948 Beach Road, Siesta Key, near the yellow lifeguard stand. There, participants will be assigned a 10-foot by 10-foot square. Judging will begin at 1 p.m. and awards will be presented at 2 p.m. Spectators are invited to vote for the people’s choice award.
