"In 1922, six nuns in sweeping grey habits arrived by steamer in Hong Kong from the U.S. to begin a mission. They had few resources other than their own faith, dedication and what can only be described as a divinely inspired ingenuity. But over the next nearly 90 years, the Maryknoll Sisters established six thriving schools and a hospital. They committed themselves to education and healthcare, and laid the foundation for Hong Kong’s social welfare system. Nancy M. Tong’s TRAILBLAZERS IN HABITS is the story of these pioneering women and the profound impact their good works had on a contemporary metropolis."

The stories of these courageous and heroic women have rarely been heard before, and director Kathleen Ryan handles their stories with a cinematic eye that honors their service while simultaneously allowing their true character to shine through. Six years in the making, this documentary reveals a hidden history about a generation who changed the course of American life."
