More than 175 backpacks stuffed with personal supplies have been donated to homeless military veterans in Orange County following a charity drive held by the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) in partnership with event sponsors UnitedHealthcare and Optum, the health benefits and services company for UnitedHealth Group.

The charity drive, FAC Gives Back(packs), kicked off the Association’s 2016 conference and expo in Orlando, where attendees filled UnitedHealthcare and Optum backpacks with donations from exhibiting companies. The Florida Department of Veteran Affairs collected the bags full of first-aid kits, toothbrushes, soaps, razors and sunscreen to be distributed to veterans in need.

“It is an honor to work with our county and military service partners in the state of Florida to help area homeless veterans get back on their feet,” said Jeff Giadone, Regional Vice President of UnitedHealthcare Public Sector and Labor.

“Beyond the supplies that we know will be greatly appreciated by veterans, the event has given us the opportunity to raise awareness for the need to give back to those who have served our country,” said Tom Carey, Vice President of Optum Business Development.
