Sarasota, FL — Monday is Veterans Day and you'll find many banks and government offices will be closed in observance of the holiday.
Here are some of the holiday closings we found around the Sarasota Area:
- There is no U.S. Postal Service mail delivery on Monday, Nov. 11.
- Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Monday.
- Garbage, recycling and yard waste pickups will follow a normal schedule.
- Sarasota County Schools will be open Monday but the Sarasota County School District said various schools are planning special Veterans Day programs.

- Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, 2650 Waldemere St., will be closed.
- Bobby Jones Golf Club, 1000 Circus Blvd., will be open regular hours: 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Lido Pool, 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be closed.
- Payne Park Tennis Center, 2050 Adams Lane, will be open limited hours: 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, 1845 John Rivers St., will be open limited hours: 6-10 a.m.
- Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail - The Box Office will be open.
The city and the Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee will host the 2019 Veterans Day parade and ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. along Main Street and Osprey Avenue. It will wrap up at Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park at the corner of Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue for an 11 a.m. ceremony.

This year’s parade theme is “All Gave Some … Some Gave All … We May Not Know Them All … We Owe Them All.”
The ceremony will feature guest speaker and retired U.S. Army Col. Michael P. Ryan, who served 10 years as senior Army instructor at Sarasota Military Academy. The event will also include a performance by the Sarasota Jazz Club Band.
The parade will include the color guards from the Sarasota Police Department, Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and Sarasota County Fire Department; antique military vehicles; students from Sarasota Military Academy, Booker and Sarasota high schools, Sarasota Academy of the Arts and the Venice Middle School Junior Marines; Boy Scouts of America; Girl Scouts of the USA; and many other veterans groups, community organizations and local dignitaries.
The following road closures and vehicle tow away zones will be enforced for the parade beginning at 8 a.m., according to the Sarasota Police Department:
- 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Main Street closed from U.S. 301 to Mira Mar Court
- 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Main Street closed from Mira Mar Court to U.S. 41
- 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Osprey Avenue from Fruitville Road to Ringling Boulevard
- 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Pineapple Avenue closed from State Street to First Street
- 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Links Avenue from Fruitville Road to Ringling Boulevard
- 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: First Street closed from Pineapple Avenue to Central Avenue
- 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Central Avenue closed from Main Street to First Street
