Hot Car Rescue Of Dog Caught On Sarasota Police Body Cams: Watch

SARASOTA, FL — The Sarasota Police Department’s new body-worn cameras captured the rescue of a dog locked inside a hot car on University Parkway this week.

The car was turned off when officers arrived and temperatures inside reached 115 degrees, police tweeted. They broke the car’s back window to rescue the hot pooch.

The owner told police that he left the car running. He was issued two citations by Sarasota County Animal Services.

SPD began training its uniformed officers on its new Axon Body 3 cameras April 21. All patrol officers have completed training and are outfitted with cameras.

The Axon Body 3 cameras are an all-encompassing system within one unit, including the battery. They're also Bluetooth- and wi-fi-enabled and offer a 360-degree, wide-angle view. Officers can stream their recorded videos directly to their phones for review.

Additional Axon Flex 2 body-worn cameras will be issued to members of the agency's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team and the Emergency Response Team.
