Wheelchair-bound Victim Bites Suspect's Hand To Fight Off Robbery

A 28-year-old Sarasota man is facing an attempted robbery charge after authorities say he robbed a man in a wheelchair outside a Walgreens Tuesday.

Justin Haney, of, 519 Richardson Way, Sarasota, was the man shown in store surveillance footage before he left the store at 3601 Bee Ridge Road, and approached a 45-year-old man in the parking lot, asking to buy pills off of him, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

The victim, Guerrero Aaron, told Haney he didn't have any pills, so Aaron went inside his car, according to the affidavit.

While Aaron was inside his car, Haney came to the driver's side door and attempted to steal the victim's satchel, according to the affidavit. After a struggle between the two, Haney punched the victim multiple times in the face, according to the sheriff's office.

Aaron then bit into Haney to fend him off, and was able to get his car into drive to get away from the suspect, according to the affidavit. At the same time, the suspect, Haney, fled from the scene, according to the sheriff's office.

Crime Stoppers received tips thanks to the circulation of the footage, and detectives arrested Haney Wednesday on a Charlotte County warrant for violating probation, according to the sheriff's office. He will be charged with Attempted Robbery in this case.

Haney criminal history includes 25 arrests for charges including battery, burglary and robbery, according to the sheriff's office.

The woman shown in the video who was with Haney is identified as Jessica Johnson, 27, and has not been located or charged at this time.
