ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Colton Herta, 21, is the champion of the 2021 Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Herta won the pole Saturday with the fastest qualifying time in the race. Sunday, he led all but three laps from the pole position on the 1.8-mile street course, according to NBC Sports. This is his fourth win in IndyCar. Three of the four were won when he started from the pole position. The laps he didn't lead were the ones surrounding pit stops, the Tampa Bay Times reported. He set a track record by leading 97 out of the 100 laps.

Bryan Herta, Colton's dad and a former IndyCar driver, acted as his son's race strategist. Bryan told NBC that he is super proud of Colton, and that he did a great job. He felt confident with their game plan.
