Day Of The Dead 2020 Augmented Mural By Modelo In St. Petersburg
St. Pete residents can celebrate Day of the Dead in a socially distant way with Modelo's mural that comes to life with a mariachi band.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Modelo, a Mexico-based beer brewery, is giving St. Petersburg residents a way to celebrate Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) with its mural on the side of a Central Arts District building that comes to life with a skeleton mariachi band playing music.
Scan the QR code located on the image and the band starts to move and play music.
Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration, according to History.com.

The holiday is celebrated Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.
Last year, in the days without a coronavirus pandemic, downtown St. Pete celebrated with a Day of the Dead block party on Central Avenue, but this year residents can honor their deceased loved ones in a socially distanced way with the Modelo mural on the side of the building, 556 Central Ave.

"This holiday, we encourage everyone to follow local health and safety protocols," Modelo told Patch. "We’re excited about the augmented reality mural because it provides a way for friends and family to connect virtually. People can visit the mural in person and share their experience on social media, or if they prefer to stay home, they can scan the image of the mural on the website with a smartphone to celebrate."
Bob Case, an artist based in Phoenix, Arizona, designed the augmented reality mural.
You must be 21 or older to scan the image or visit its website, where you can also watch the mural come to life after you scan the QR code provided in image below and then hold it up to your computer to listen to the music and watch the band:
