Downtown St. Pete Drivers Should Expect Road Closures, Detours

Drivers in downtown St. Petersburg can expect some road closures and detours over the next few days

ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Drivers in downtown St. Petersburg can expect some road closures and detours over the next few days due to construction for the Grand Prix race and pavement resurfacing work along First Street South and Central Avenue, city officials said.

On Thursday, Feb. 22, road work along First Street (from First Avenue North through First Avenue South) will close the southbound lanes to traffic. Northbound lanes through the area will remain open from First Avenue South to First Avenue North. Road work will also take place along Central Avenue between First and Second Streets through the afternoon.

The roadway is expected to be open starting at 5 p.m. to handle rush-hour traffic. Due to the closure of First Street South from First Avenue South through Fifth Avenue South for Grand Prix preparations, the posted detours will take traffic west to Second Avenue at First Street North and continue south on Second to Fifth Avenue South.
