Eckerd College to Host Reading of 'The Mountaintop'

Performance is based on the night before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – In its final staged reading session of the school year, Eckerd College will host a reading of “The Mountaintop” by Katori Hall.

The event takes place on Tuesday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Miller Auditorium, 4200 54th Ave. S.

“The Mountaintop” is a re-imagination of the events that occurred the night before the assassination of civil rights leader, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. On April 3, 1968, after delivering one of his most memorable speeches, an exhausted King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tenn., while a storm raged outside. A mysterious stranger arrives with surprising news, and King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy.

Tickets are $15 and $13 for seniors, with advance ticket purchase recommended. College and university students are free with a valid student ID card.
