Motorcyclist Identified In Fatal St. Pete Crash On 5th Avenue

The St. Petersburg Police Department has identified the 56-year-old man who died in a St. Pete crash that blocked lanes of travel.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A 56-year-old motorcyclist died after he lost control of his bike Friday on Fifth Avenue North in St. Pete, police said.

The St. Petersburg Police Department has identified the victim as Kelly Leroy Quimper.

Authorities say Quimper drove in the eastbound direction on Fifth Avenue North, and when he approached 14th Street North, he lost control of his 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

This caused the bike to drive onto the sidewalk and crash into a fence. The impact officials say threw Quimper's body onto the pavement.

Investigators said he was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives initially thought another car may have been involved but during the investigation it was revealed the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in this crash.

All lanes of Fifth Avenue North are closed to traffic between 14 Street North and 16th Street North due to a fatal accident involving a motorcyclist, St. Petersburg police said.

Authorities say the crash occurred at 4:30 p.m., Friday, and involved a motorcyclist and a car.

The motorcyclist officials say was pronounced dead at the scene.
