FDOT: Sack St. Petersburg Bowl Traffic With Florida 511

The automated traveler information system can help residents and guests avoid traffic delays.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – There’s a lot of excitement building up for the 2016 St. Petersburg Bowl – and a lot of traffic is expected to build up during the holiday weekend as well.

Football fans traveling with their teams and Tampa Bay-area residents looking to dodge St. Petersburg Bowl game-day traffic can plan ahead with the Florida 511 Traveler Information System from the Florida Department of Transportation.

Florida 511 is the state’s free and official travel information service that provides real-time incident, congestion and construction information on all of Florida’s interstates, toll roads and other major metropolitan roadways.

This year’s bowl game, featuring the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Miami (OH) Redhawks, is set to take place Monday, Dec. 26 at 11 a.m. Fans and residents can also use Florida 511 to navigate to or around the public events taking place in the days leading up to the game.

Commuters can learn of incidents and congestion by checking the Florida 511 mobile app, which can be downloaded free on Google Play or the Apple App Store. Drivers can also check Florida 511 Twitter feeds, including @FL511_TAMPABAY, @FL_511-I4 and @FL511_I75.

In all, there are four ways for motorists to receive traffic updates:

  • Visit https://fl511.com for an interactive map displaying current traffic, travel and congestion information.
  • Sign up for a My Florida 511 personalized services account at FL511. Com to create customer routes and register for email or text alerts.
  • Call 511 toll-free from anywhere in Florida for real-time traffic updates.
  • Follow one or more of the more than 13 statewide, regional or roadway-specific Twitter feeds or the hashtag #FL511.

The FDOT is encouraging motorists to check Florida 511 to help them arrive safely and on time. The department also recommends checking Florida 511 before driving or have a passenger help to avoid using a phone while driving.
