Granadino's, Bayou Cafe Cited By Health Inspectors

Improperly stored foods and the use of unsanitized bowls are a few of the violations found recently in Pinellas County restaurants.

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL – Improperly stored foods and the use of unsanitized bowls are some of the violations that Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation inspectors found recently in Pinellas County restaurants.

Granadino's Italian Restaurant, 1840 Drew St., Clearwater, was cited for 13 violations on May 10, including kitchen door in back with gap at threshold that opens to outside; soup held at unsafe low temperature; and hot water not provided/shut off at employee handwash sink.

Grant's Crabs, Seafood & Grille, 13030 Starkey Road #3, Largo, was cited for 28 violations on May 10, including grease receptacle/dumpster not on proper pad/nonabsorbent surface; raw chicken stored in holding unit not covered; Raid insecticide container stored on prep table; bowls not sanitized in between uses.

San's Pizzeria, 4842 Ridgemoor Blvd., Palm Harbor, was cited for 10 violations on May 9, including grease receptacle not on proper pad/nonabsorbent surface; box of to-go containers and wrapped pizza boxes left on floor in dry storage area; and raw chicken stored over raw shrimp, peppers in walk-in cooler.

Bayou Cafe, 118 E. Tarpon Ave., Tarpon Springs, was cited for 17 violations on May 9, including food stored in holding unit not covered — pork, cut melon, sausage gravy, ham, roast beef, salami, turkey; unwashed fruits stored with ready-to-eat food (strawberries with cheese, both discarded); and no paper towels or mechanical hand-drying device provided at handwash sink.

In the last 21 days, 135 Pinellas County restaurants did not pass the first inspection while 173 aced the first visit. For more details on Pinellas County restaurant inspections, click here.

The inspectors made note of seven Pinellas County restaurants (and two pretzel carts) that passed inspections last week without any violations: Pop Goes The Waffle, 5650 Park Blvd. Unit #5, Pinellas Park; Softee The King, 14 Mill St., Tarpon Springs; Pretzel Carts 1B and 3B, Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg; Chaplins Calabash, 2319 Central Ave., St. Petersburg; Ozzies Kitchen & Catering, 6182 Park Blvd., Pinellas Park; Traveling Cheeseboard, 6657 49th St. N, Pinellas Park; OMG Dogs, 6657 49th St. N, Pinellas Park; and Clear-Water Hot Dogs, 2619 23rd Ave. N, St. Petersburg.

Note: Most of the restaurants with violations corrected those violations and have passed subsequent inspections.
