Video: It's Raining Gators In Florida

Flooding throughout Tampa Bay has turned streets into rivers — at least as far as gators are concerned.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Flooding throughout Tampa Bay has turned streets into rivers — at least as far as gators are concerned.

Last week, Roger Light Jr. captured this video of an alligator at the traffic signal in front of Wawa on Gandy Boulevard and Grand Avenue.

"This alligator startled me when, out of nowhere I saw it coming toward me when I was stopped at the traffic light," said Light in a Facebook post. "I was wondering why people were out videotaping in the pouring rain and people were backed up in the right turn lane that the gator was in. One minute I’m just looking around waiting for the traffic light to turn green and then the next thing I knew I see this gator coming toward me on my passenger side lol."

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission removed the 8-foot gator from the road to relieve the traffic congestion it was causing.

This wasn't the only close encounter with a gator in Florida.

On Saturday, another alligator in Jacksonville was filmed climbing the fence at the Naval Air Station.

Jacksonville resident Christina Stewart spotted the gator as she was driving by and stopped to videotape it clawing its way up a fence before belly-flopping onto the grass and continuing on its way. According to the Action News in Jacksonville, officials with the naval station said they don't plan on removing the alligator from the base unless he poses a danger.
