Man On Moped Killed In Crash With Van On 34th St. N: Police

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A 59-year-old man was killed in a moped crash Tuesday afternoon in St. Petersburg, police said.

A 2018 Ford van was stopped in traffic on 34th Street North southbound near Ninth Avenue North at about 1:30 p.m. The driver of the moped, John Brakefield, did not stop and crashed into the back of the van, detectives with the St. Pete Police Department said. All lanes of 34th Street North were closed during the investigation.

The driver of the van was not injured.

Brakefield died at a local hospital, authorities said.
