Pregnant Woman Hit by Tow Truck Out of Coma, Delivers Baby Girl

A campaign has been set up to help the family with medical expenses.

Jenny Quiles was 33 weeks along in her pregnancy when an accident in St. Petersburg left her in a coma, clinging to life.

The Town ‘N Country woman was struck by a tow truck Oct. 15 as she was crossing 1st Avenue North. She’s been at Bayfront Medical Center ever since.

Quiles’ story took a turn for the better when the 36-year-old awakened from her coma Wednesday. She delivered a 6-pound baby girl by C-section on Thursday, BayNews9 reported.

The baby has been named Angel, which is also Quiles’ husband’s name.

The elder Angel has created a GoFundMe campaign to help offset the costs of Jenny’s medical care. While she is responsive and the baby is doing well, The Tampa Tribune reports that she remains in intensive care.

Since the accident, both Jenny and Angel Quiles Jr. have been out of work.

“We are reaching out to anybody who will help us financially,” Angel Quiles Jr. wrote on the GoFundMe.com campaign page.

Angel explained that he’s not left Jenny’s side since she was injured.

The accident happened around 3 p.m. Oct. 15 as Jenny was crossing the street to go to her doctor’s office. A tow truck was heading northbound on 3rd Street and made a left onto 1st Avenue North. Quiles was halfway across the center lane as the truck turned, an email from the St. Petersburg Police Department stated.

“The right front corner of the Dodge struck Quiles and projected her forward onto the pavement, where she struck her head,” the email said.

The accident remains under investigation.

Angel expects his wife’s road to recovery to be a long one, but he told BayNews9 he’s hopeful.

“She’s responding with her eyes, she doing gestures, she’s moving her hands, her legs are moving,” the station quoted him as saying. “To see her moving, now I can breathe a little bit.”
